Charity
Working within the community is far more than a set objective we need to fulfil - it's part of who we are. The ethos of giving something back to the community began 30 years ago in Sheffield, and continues at our overseas sites in Strasbourg, Chicago, Kobe, Ontario, Warsaw, Aßlar and New Delhi today.
People Power
We annually donate a percentage of our profits to charity, with our internal charities team meeting regularly to discuss fundraising events and nominate worthy causes to benefit from future funding. We like to help out wherever we can, often focusing our efforts on charities and other causes that are less publicised and sometimes overlooked.
Another aspect of our charity work is best described as 'people power' projects, where we take large teams of our people off-site to complete renovations and volunteer their time, rather than just support by way of a financial donation. Our volunteers find these 'hands on' projects very rewarding, as it gives them a chance to use their hidden skills, and they're great team building activities!
Newfield Green Library - Community Project
This volunteer run library in a deprived area of Sheffield was looking for help to turn it into a community hub with the aim of helping the elderly, job seekers, parents and toddlers, and young adults. The library is an important part of the community as it provides an outlet of support, advice and fun for local people who have nowhere else to go. A large team of volunteers from Gripple worked on repainting both the inside and outside of the library. We created a craft corner, a small cafe area, and revamped the remaining areas, transforming the library into a bright, modern and welcoming space for the community.
The Sunday Centre
The Gripple charities team is working closely with this not-for-profit for the homeless and vulnerable on Sundays. Many other homeless shelters are closed on this day, so the Sunday Centre provides a warm, safe and friendly environment for the homeless. Volunteers from across Gripple have been helping by serving food and drinks and chatting to the centre's visitors.
The charities team also donated a small pool table for the games room, and we organised a warm clothing, rucksacks and toiletries collection.
"Everyone at Ethel felt quite humbled by the enormous effort. What a wonderful group of people you are."
Gripple Charity of the Year
Each year Gripple selects a charity to be their chosen charity of the year, previous charities have included Sheffield’s Royal Society for the Blind and Ethel Trust Community Barge. Most recently we have supported the Jessop Wing Bereavement Suite as part of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
This year Gripple is taking part in The Master Cutler’s Challenge which is raising funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic this charity, which is solely funded by donations, faces challenges than ever before to provide patients and families with the help and support they need.
The charities team is always pleased to hear from deserving organisations seeking help and support, so please do get in touch with us - we'd love to hear from you
Fundraising Driven by our People
Our people organise a multitude of events every year in support of our charities of the year, as well as for a range of other worthy causes. Recent events have included a Hollywood style ball, a charity head shave, sponsored runs, raffles and quizzes.
